"Point Counter-Point"
Christian Education’s Adult and
Youth Fourth Sunday Debates

Fourteen people joined the first debate church between Pastor Cindy and Michael Helbush in February. Each argued a different point of view to answer the question “Was the birth of Jesus a Virgin Birth?” Both prepared for a scholarly and lively discussion using bible passages to prove opposing points. (They do not necessarily believe the points they were presenting – in a debate, each person simply takes a side. For example, Pastor Cindy argued the birth of Jesus was not a virgin birth but she really believes it was.)

After the debate, we all enjoyed a discussion. It is doubtful that anyone’s mind was changed, but maybe some people started to think about the birth of Jesus a little differently.

On March 22, we will enjoy another debate – this one will be regarding Christ’s resurrection. Did he really rise from the dead after three days? How was that possible? Again, Pastor Cindy will argue the controversial points that it was not possible and Michael will be refuting that idea. So, after church that day, grab some coffee and go to Pastor Cindy’s office to hear two opposing views about Christ’s resurrection and then join into a discussion with others and hear what they have to say.
